How to Plan Barcode and Logistics Labels for Export Cartons
A straightforward checklist for sizing, material, adhesive, and data setup when ordering barcode labels for shipping cartons and warehouse handling.
Start with the scan environment
Barcode labels that scan well in a clean office test may still fail in a warehouse. The carton surface, scanner distance, lighting, and print method all affect reliability.
Size the label for real carton panels
Export cartons often need labels to fit side panels, top flaps, or pallet-facing surfaces. Choosing the label size early helps avoid crowded layouts and poor barcode quiet zones.
Choose the right stock and print method
Direct thermal, thermal transfer, and coated label stocks each serve different workflows. The correct choice depends on durability needs, printer setup, and how long the label must remain readable.
Adhesive matters more than many buyers expect
Corrugated kraft, coated outer cases, and mixed warehouse conditions do not behave the same. Adhesive selection should match the carton surface and storage route.
Plan variable data from the start
If the label must carry carton IDs, batch numbers, pallet codes, or customer-specific routing data, the print layout should be designed around those changing fields from the beginning.
A label should support the operation, not fight it
The best logistics label is easy to print, easy to apply, and easy to scan under real operating conditions. That usually comes from process planning, not from artwork alone.
